An Old Colorant For a New Technique: Capsular Staining With Gentian Violet

Resumo:
In the cataracts without fundus reflex, especially in the white cataracts, the poor visibility of the anterior capsule makes difficult to perform a circular continuous capsulorhexis (CCC), basic requirement in modern cataract surgery.
The authors developed a new technique of anterior capsular staining with gentian violet, dissolved in BSS in a concentration of 0,01%.
The excellent intra and postoperative results considering the risks and benefits of this technique lead us to believe that this is a practical and efficacious mean to visualise the anterior capsule in cataracts without reflex.
